St. Francis is a unique and special place of learning located in Lumberton, New Mexico. Our school was founded over 78 years ago by the Franciscan Order to serve the local Jicarilla Apache and Hispanic communities. The school's location in a beautiful and remote area in the mountains of northern New Mexico, 5 miles from the Colorado border, and 3 miles from the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation, gives its student body a diverse and special quality. Over the years, the school leadership has changed hands from regional Catholic parish to local parents and communtiy members. The school remains private and independent, but with a continued close relationship with the nearby St. Francis and St. Anthony Mission Churches. Our goal is to provide each student a quality education that will prepare them for a fruitful life in partnership with their home, parish, and community. We so this by providing sound academic and spiritual instruction for kindergarten through eighth grades, with an enrollment of about 100 students. |
| Summary Statement |
St. Francis of Assisi School is a blessed community and a blessed institution. Every year new volunteers come, literally God sent. We depend on generous donations from local and national individuals and organizations and every year God provides. We are fortunate to be in a position to pour our energies into St. Francis School to an ends as our Mission states. The daily labours can cloud the ultimate goals and make it difficult to "see the forest from the trees." However, it is very evident that God has great plans for St. Francis and fortunately so many individuals who support the school community make this mission possible.
