Events
& Community
The
history and development presented above is very present in our
school today. There are many events which celebrate the rich
culture and heritage of the Jicarilla Apache and Spanish people.
Two in particular that celebrate the food, song, dance, customs,
and religious faith of the Jicarilla Apache peoples are Little
Beaver Roundup and Go-jii-ya. Spanish food, song, dance, and
religious faith is celebrated annually as well, during the St.
Francis Fiesta. All peoples of the area join in on these events
and help one another celebrate. This year the rodeo was re-incorporated
in the Fiesta, in conjuncture with the Jicarilla Department of
Agriculture
Our
students enjoy outdoor activities. Many students hunt, fish,
and ranch. Our student's lives are rich in family. Students
see Grandparents, Aunties, and cousins daily. These family
members support them at school functions, particularly evident
during basketball season. Our school gym is always full, standing
room only, whenever we host a basketball game against Dulce.
We take great pride in the fact that our Midhigh Girls Basketball
team took first at the Dulce Midhigh Basketball Tournament.
This year, a first ever, out Midhigh girls basketball team
went undefeated.
The Dulce Community Center has a small bowling alley,
gym, and olympic size pool. Dulce also has a fitness
center which is free to the public.
There are many events in the surrounding communities.
The Albuquerque Balloon Fest and Santa Fe Fiestas are
in the fall. Santa Fe also has a large number of
galleries and museums. The nearby pueblos and
parishes have their own fiestas as well, which always
include food and dance.
